Africa alive! is currently closed

Following further Government advice on social distancing, Africa Alive! will temporarily close its gates to guests for the foreseeable future, from 4:00pm today, Sunday 22nd March.

During these strange times, we want our Zoos to be here for those who need some space and could safely visit. We know this time of social distancing is difficult and that we are all going to need our outside spaces more than ever. That said, for the safety of our staff and guests it has become impractical for us to remain open whilst ensuring social distancing

How long this will be for, we simply do not know, but we really hope it plays a part in slowing down the spread of this awful virus.

Rest assured, that our incredibly dedicated staff will continue to ensure that the animals at the zoos will continue to receive high levels of care.

We are so grateful for the support we receive from our pass-holders and guests and know you will have all sorts of questions. Please look at the FAQs below and hopefully they will help to answer them for you.

Keep an eye on the zoo’s social media channels and website as we try to deliver as much positive news and updates about the animals to you as we can throughout this difficult period.

Stay safe everyone, look after each other and those in your community who need it most and, when this is all over, let’s all get back together at our amazing zoo’s and ensure we can all reconnect with nature

FAQ’s

How long will Africa Alive! stay closed?

We will continue to monitor the ever-changing coronavirus situation, whilst also following the very latest advice and guidance by the Government.

What will happen further down the line, we simply do not know, but will be sure to provide you with updates as soon as we have them.

What happens to my annual/two-year pass now you are closed?

The ongoing support from our pass-holders is vital now more than ever. As you cannot visit us at the moment, we will extend the validity of your pass by the equivalent time that the zoos are closed. You do not need to contact us to receive this additional period of validity, as we will change your end date automatically.

If you have received a letter from us to renew your membership in April, you can still do this to gain the benefit of discounted renewal prices and the validity will be extended by any period of closure

If you do have any other specific questions then please email guestservices@zsea.org and we will get back to you as soon as we can.

I have booked a ticket, what happens to my ticket?

If you are no longer able to visit, and have pre-booked tickets, you will be able to postpone your booking to later in the year. Please contact our guest services team who can help you out.

I have an experience booked, what should I do?

In light of the zoos closure, all guests with experiences booked before 30th April 2020 have been contacted. If the period of closure is likely to extend beyond this date, those with bookings will be contacted

We know this is disappointing for those who have booked but thank you for your understanding as we adapt in these unprecedented times. All postponed experiences can be rearranged, so we look forward to seeing you in the not-too-distant future.

My school or group has booked to visit the zoo, what happens here?

In light of the zoos closure, all group and school organisers booked before 30th April 2020 have been contacted. If the period of closure is likely to extend beyond this date, those with bookings will be contacted.

What will happen to my animal sponsorship if the zoo is closed?

We can reassure you that whilst the zoo is closed the animal that you have sponsored will enjoy the exact same levels of care and attention they receive all year round.

How can I support ZSEA during these challenging times?

As a charity that has a commitment to connect communities to nature for conservation, we rely on donations and guests to our Zoos. Without the help of our supporters we could not look after the over 2,000 animals within the zoos, or carry out our conservation work protecting wildlife around the world.
