The zoo is CLOSED from 1st January until further notice
We have decided to close both zoos (Africa Alive & Banham Zoo from 1 January 2021) until further notice. The zoos will open tomorrow (31 December) but are closing their gates once again at 2pm and will remain closed until further notice.
Despite zoos and other outdoor attractions being allowed to remain open the Government guidelines for Tier 4 state to ‘stay at home’ and ‘act responsibly to control the virus’. The numbers of Covid-19 infections have been rising daily and with the concern about the spread of the new variant we’ve taken this difficult decision to close both zoos until further notice to ensure we keep people safe.
Both zoos had re-opened on 27th December after the Government published an amended ‘SI’ (Statutory Instrument) which permits outdoor attractions, including zoos, to remain open in Tier 4 areas. We are very disappointed to make this decision and will of course be offering anyone who has pre-booked tickets the opportunity to re-book.
I have booked for a date in January? Can I still come?
For anyone who has pre purchased tickets from 1 January 2021, both zoos will be closed until further notice. All tickets can be reused on any day from when we reopen until 30 June 2021. No need to rebook, just quote the original booking number at the kiosk.
How do I contact someone with a query regarding this?
Any customer service queries must be emailed as zoo administration staff will be working remotely for their safety. All enquiries should be emailed to email@example.com irrespective of whether for Banham Zoo or Africa Alive and someone will respond within 48 hours
How else can I support the zoo?
Africa Alive and Banham Zoo need a minimum of £25,000 per week to care for all of the animals and with the added pressure of not receiving any income for the foreseeable future, the charity is asking for donations to the #WildAboutSurvival appeal to help our zoos through these uncertain times.
We apologise for the disappointment this may have caused in closing but we hope you understand our decision at this point in time.
