There are 34 species of mongoose, belonging to the family Herpestidae.

Yellow mongoose are found in southern Angola, Namibia, Botswana, south-western Zimbabwe and South Africa.
Insects make up the majority of the yellow mongoose diet. They also eat lizards, snakes, birds, eggs and small mammals as well as fruit, maize, grass seeds and other vegetation. Here at the park the yellow mongoose are fed a varied diet of meat, eggs, fruit and insects.
Between 1-4 young are born in a litter after a pregnancy of 6 - 8 weeks, with weaning taking place at approximately 6 weeks of age. Our yellow mongoose breed regularly at the park.
The yellow mongoose is not believed to be endangered, and is found in many protected areas in Africa.
