Size: Length: 45 – 60cm
African plated lizards are found in eastern and southern Africa, from Ethiopia to South Africa. They are found mainly in rocky deserts habitats.
These lizards are omnivores (eat both meat and plants), feeding on leaves, flowers, beetles, grasshoppers and sometimes even smaller lizards.
The females usually lay between 2 - 6 eggs, which are incubated for around 3 - 4 months.
The plated lizard has not been evaluated by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), but it is not thought to be endangered.
