King Colobus

Habitat
The king or western colobus is found in forests from Gambia to Côte d’Ivoire, West Africa.

Diet
Colobus monkeys mainly eat leaves, but as leaves don’t contain many nutrients, they have a special multi-chambered stomach to extract as much nutrition as possible.

Breeding
The female gives birth to one young after a 6 month pregnancy and will usually have young once every 2 years.

Conservation
Numbers of King Colobus are believed to have dropped by up to 50% in just 30 years! Habitat loss and hunting by humans are the major threats to this species.
